January 2011 Books
I'm going to try to keep things updated a little better than last year. Considering that it's only the middle of January, I'm already making progress.
There are only two books for this month -- Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress for Manitowish Waters and The Wednesday Sisters for Winchester.
Boulder Junction will again have its salad luncheon/book selection meeting on the 12th. Any books on the list not selected for the next year will be posted in the recommended book post.
Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress
ReplyDeleteWell! What can I say about this book. Was there a point to the story. Maybe there was something missing in the translation.
A little historical info scattered about. At the beginning the two boys were being "re-educated" with steady hard work and conforming to the ways of the village. But then it all seemed to blow by the way, they were free to come and go to other villages, no work was on their agenda and it was as if they had stepped up a notch somehow.
The little seamstress, was she just playing them or was the moral of the story; you can learn from books. hmmmmmmm....
